A quick stop-over in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

Their skyline gave me such a nice aesthetics and mood on all of my photos.

Waking up early was all worth it. Soft tones achieved.

The next set of photos was taken inside an old Brothel located in Petaling Street. It was a little bit hidden. You need to look up for the sign since it was located on top of a stationery shop. You’ll be welcomed by the red light( believed to be from the old occupant before it was turned into a cafe) leading upstairs to the main floor of the cafe. Look-up Merchant’s Lane.

Thailand: A Safe Haven for Coffee Addicts

When you ask about Thailand you automatically think of things like The Hangover movie, tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces, elephant sanctuaries, ancient temples, transgender, legalized prostitution, famous Thai massages and delicious food. But for me, I went to Thailand to try their coffee beans.

Caffeine is the most widely known psychoactive substance in the world right now. I, personally, can’t fully function without it every morning. Its commonly known as a mood enhancer, especially when you pull an all-nighter and you have to be somewhere at 8 the next day.

First on the List is located in Phuket.

Phuket is widely known for its beaches and wildest parties. It is both a province and an island. The only thing about this amazing place is that landmarks are scattered around. The biggest concern is transportation. Everything in the island is in tourist rate! But if you do your research, you’ll find a way to still stick with the budget.

Places to visit to cure your hangover besides banana smoothies and another shot of tequila — a good coffee.

Roengjit Cafe - Phuket, Thailand

The place has rustic decor bathed in piano melodies. This cafe is nestled next to a busy round about with a historic clock tower tall and centred. The ambiance sets you back in time, nostalgia written in all corners.

RUSH Specialty Coffee - Phuket, Thailand

This modern cafe was the remedy after a long walk around Old Town Phuket. They use beans from a Japanese company. They’ve been business since 2016, it is safe to say that they know coffee.

Next stop, the famous place in all of Thailand— Bangkok.

The city of Bangkok is the all time favourite location for movies in Southeast Asia. It houses the famous ancient temples which features the leaning Buddha and its famous architectures. Aside from that, tourists all over the world look forward to experience the water festival called Songkran. The city is alive during the night, as wel,l because of tnumerous night markets and pub streets. The city offers a lot. That’s why it became one of the most preferred tourist destinations in the world.

Roots Coffee Roaster - Bangkok, Thailand

The Commons, the newest feel-like-home community mall, is located in Thonglor Soi 17. Hoping to be that backyard hang-out where everyone comes to chill on their free time, Roots serves coffee at its very best. Their cold brew attracts coffees lovers across the neighborhood, even more now that Roots offers it fresh from the tap. Another gimmick that attracts brewed-bean fanatics is the Barista’s Choice, which includes winning drinks from a barista competition in the menu for a limited amount of time. They now have Cherry Cola and Summer Peach cold brews on the grind – both are perfect for beating the heat.[-]

Last stop, the calm city in the Northern mountainous province of Thailand called Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai is a land of misty mountains and colourful hill tribes, a playground for seasoned travellers, a paradise for shoppers and a delight for adventurers. On a trip to Chiang Mai, the curious traveller can expand their horizons with Thai massages and cooking courses. Others will be bowled over by the variety of handicrafts and antiques. The wild child will find plenty of lively nightlife, and the epicure can indulge in wonderful cuisine. Despite its relatively small size, Chiang Mai truly has it all.[-]

Transit Number 8 Coffee - Chiang Mai, Thailand

A place just right outside the runway of Chiang Mai International Airport, their cold brew was amazing. Note that this place can be crowded sometimes since it is one of the most Instagrammable cafes in the city. People go here not just for coffee but for to step up their Instagram game too.

Maled Coffee Roasters - Chiang Mai, Thailand

One of the best specialty coffees for me. A small coffee shop that won this year’s coffee roasting competition in Thailand. The prices were reasonable. The place has bean bags where you can binge your Netflix all-day or just read your favourite book.

Yellow Crafts Coffee - Chiang Mai, Thailand

A cute place near the airport and a 10-minute ride from Chiang Mai University. They have a home-made soy milk option too.

Gateway Coffee - Chiang Mai, Thailand

A minimalistic approach in terms of the location. Their coffee was amazing. They have selections of desserts and sweets to pair up with your coffee. A perfect place to read or do your homework.

Graph Cafe - Chiang Mai, Thailand

This place started as a small cafe in Chiang Mai. Now they’ve prospered, and is probably my favourite in the city. Sometimes, it’s not just the product that you seek after but also the story behind each perfect cup of cold brew. The brand literally means “Life process”. The way is up and down, snaking & winding. Same as the graph of our lives.Up and down, swings and round abouts. That’s how they started.

Thamel Coffee - Chiang Mai, Thailand

Lovely enchanting place. Delightfully decorated with woven tablecloths and lots of local pictures and tapestries. Staff are very friendly. Food prices are reasonable. Not all that easy to find as it's tucked away above a clothing store at Warlock Market but well worth searching for. There is no air conditioning but instead lots of ceiling fans which blew a welcome breeze through the place on this hot 34 degree day. The last place I visited before my afternoon flight to Vietnam!

Yindee Cafe (CMU) - Chiang Mai, Thailand

A cash-only cafe located in the premises of Chiang Mai University. A place for a quick coffee fix while waiting for sunset at Any Kaew Reservoir.

Laugh Out loud Cafe and Home - Chiang Mai, Thailand

A cafe inside a cool hostel near One Nimman Community mall. The street is full of arts and design and a place you should check out to step-up your instagram game!

A Balinese Experience

A five day with a five star experience.

It is my first time to be in Indonesia and this is the second leg in my Southeast Asia tour! I booked a one way ticket to Denpasar, Bali. The Philippines, as my terminal country, only have three airlines that offer a direct flight to DPS available, Philippine Airline, Cebu Pacific Air and Air Asia.

Tips: If you want to have a variety of flight options, scout for flight prices in Google flights BUT book it on the airline’s website. And if you want to have a discount every time you fly with a certain airline try to enrol yourself with their frequent flyer program.

Preparations

Accommodations: Airbnb, Hostels, Homestays

Prices: 60 CAD to 120 CAD per night

Transportation: KLOOK, TAXI, GrabCar, Go-Jek

What to expect?

Bali is a small province of Indonesia that boosted their tourism and economy because of their pure white sand beaches, hiking, surfing and breath-taking views. The book published by Elizabeth Gilbert called ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ became so famous and it garnered attention of readers and influenced spiritual goers to see Bali themselves. Then in 2010, they made a film adaptation of the book starring Julia Roberts and made its way to a blockbuster film earning more than 200 million dollars.

Now, Bali has developed areas where you can use cars as your means of transportation but most of the places in the island still remain the same which is only accessible through the use of small bikes.

So if you’re from a big city be prepared seeing a flock of motorbikes on the major road and they ignore traffic rules so when crossing the streets just take precautions.

Where to stay?

If you are into shopping and night life, I would recommend the Kuta area and Seminyak area for you to explore. They have a variety of stores for you to shop, from the fanciest local brands and imported ones to the sidewalk stalls that you can bargain with for as low as 10k IDR.

Most tourists flock in Kuta since the airport is nearby plus you have a public accessed beach right away. Plus the dining is not as expensive as the other places in Bali. Seminyak, on the other hand, has a different market. It caters the middle class to Elite groups where shopping malls or boutiques are designed as elegant as possible. This area has a lot of beach club, Fancy Vegan shop, and colourful buildings and alleyway. Just imagine 70’s to 80’s vibe with the presence of modern and industrial vibe.

If you prefer beach and adventure, you might consider checking out the other side of the island. The Sanur Area where you can spot a lot of tours in and out of the island. If you are planning to check out the Nusa Pineda Island, the place for those adventure junkie and beach bum. Besides the island hopping and excursion to the said island, you can also avail those scuba and snorkelling packages.

If you prefer wellness, peace, and nature (Like I do), I recommend the Ubud Area. This place has a lot of things to offer for those who seek relaxation, escape from the modern world activities, and just simply be with nature. It differs from the areas above because mainly it has no sign of big development, it’s in the mountainous area of Bali, and it’s cooler in temperature than the city. You can find the infamous Bali Swing, the Tegallalang Rice Fields, the numerous waterfalls, the abandoned resorts, and other nature-related stuff in Ubud.

What not to miss?

Up for some early morning walk in between the rice fields.

We chased the sunrise and booked a place nearby the Tegallalang Rice Fields. We planned to be up early to avoid a heavy crowd along the rice fields plus we wanted to get the golden color of the sunrise but we failed to do so since the weather was gloomy and the cloud covered the field.

Note that visiting there is free, but they ask for you to drop a small amount of donation for the maintenance of the pathway so the future tourist can safely walk through the muddy path . Use covered shoes instead of flip flops especially during the morning since the path is a bit slippery. Always take precaution, it is not an easy trail as you think. The terraces is made of mud and clay. In some instances it might not carry your weight, some pathways are just plain muddy terrace.

Chase waterfalls, not love nor people (Charot)

“Nungnung waterfall, located 40 kilometers north of Denpasar with a height of 900 meters above sea level. This tourism object is located in Badung District evening. It lies about – about five miles before the bridge Tukad Bangkung known as the tallest bridge in Asia with a specific height of the pillars reached 71.14 meters. In this village there is a waterfall with a height of 50 meters with large water discharge, to reach the location of such waterfall we must trace hilly rice fields about 2 miles from the highway.”[1]

This waterfall is a gem that needs to be experienced and discovered. But there’s a catch, you will experience 10 minutes of hell going down and a dead-ass 20 minutes or so depending on how fit you are going up. *winks

Is it free to go down and see this beauty? The million dollar answer is no, but for them to give us a better stairs to hell to see heaven you need to drop 10,000 IDR before you go down. A value you always waste for a cup of a Starbucks coffee.

Explore the forgotten gems (UrBex)

When driving around Bali, you will pass by a lot of abandoned places. One of this was the Hotel Pondok Indah Bedugul. You will stumble upon this abandoned hotel on the cliff of the mountain on your way to Handara golf club.

“There is a version that the hotel was owned by Tommy Soeharto, the youngest son of the former president Soeharto. The constructions were launched in 1993 and frozen in 1995. There are many rumors and legends about it: After bombing in Kuta in 2002, Tommy’s plans were ruined as tourists didn’t want to come to Bali. He violated some obligations and couldn’t invest in further constructions. Tommy got in jail for an assassination of the Supreme Court judge.”[1]

Found another abandoned amusement park, located south of the island. The park host a theatre, cinema, large function hall, a man-made mountain and few small buildings.

Today, the complex — known as Taman Festival Bali — is slowly being swallowed by the jungle, with vines creeping through the cracks in the walls of long-abandoned buildings and twisting through derelict game stands.

Have some afternoon drink by the beach at the beach club

One I visited was the Tropicalo Beach club owned by the people who created the Mexico Bar, established last year. An 80’s concept diner vibe restaurant in Seminyak. A 45 minute drive from Kuta proper. They open around 11 AM and serve you alcohol anytime you want. Well it’s 5 o’clock somewhere. In terms of music, it’s all loud party music. And don’t forget to apply sunscreen if you’re planning to visit at day time. The sun is a bit rough.

Eat Like a Balinese

Everywhere is super cheap but if you have a little extra and can afford restaurants it will do as well, but for us we want to taste the local food. I wish I took a lot of photos of the food we ate but oh well it was too good to remember taking pics of it.

Go surf-up the Indonesian waves

Bali, Indonesia has one of the best waves in Asia. So if you’re a surf enthusiast you should check out the surfing points around the island. The one I went to was actually an exiled one which has a very little number of people around. The only challenge is that you need to hike up and down just to see and experience this beauty.

Explore hidden beaches

When you want to experience such exotic and different scene than the usual Kuta and Seminyak beaches you probably consider hiking or going off route than the usual spot where tourist flocks. Since the early 2000s, Bali became a destination for people who wants vacation with a touch of wellness. They opted Bali as a destination since Hawaii became so famous and expensive. Tourists became Expats and you sometimes bump into them as your local guide or a receptionist in your hostels. Sometimes we opted to ask those local people who can converse well with you and ask for those pointers on where the least touristy places to check out. I am sure they can suggest 1 or 2.

Breakfast like a boss.

Book a villa that will let you eat breakfast like no other. Bali is famous for their floating breakfast. For sure most hotels and villas that has pool can provide this experience.

Places to visit When In Southern California

SoCal is not just about The Hollywood sign or the walk of fame. It offers more than just hunting down the celebrities and going on a trip to Disneyland. So here are the things to visit if you’re not into crowded places:

Places to see

Death Valley National Park

Death Valley National Park straddles eastern California and Nevada. It’s known for Titus Canyon, with a ghost town and colorful rocks, and Badwater Basin’s salt flats. North of the spiky salt mounds known as the Devil’s Golf Course, rattlesnakes live in Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. [1]

In this below-sea-level basin, steady drought and record summer heat make Death Valley a land of extremes. Yet, each extreme has a striking contrast. Towering peaks are frosted with winter snow. Rare rainstorms bring vast fields of wildflowers. Lush oases harbor tiny fish and refuge for wildlife and humans. Despite its morbid name, a great diversity of life survives in Death Valley.[2]

In 1849 emigrants bound for California's gold fields strayed into the 120-mile long basin, enduring a two-month ordeal of "hunger and thirst and an awful silence." One of the last to leave looked down from a mountain at the narrow valley and said, "Good-bye, Death Valley."[3]

Slab City

Slab City, also called The Slabs, is largely a snowbird community in the Sonoran Desert located in Imperial County, California, 100 miles northeast of San Diego and 169 miles southeast of Los Angeles within the California Badlands, and used by recreational vehicle owners and squatters from across North America.[1]

San Diego

San Diego is a city on the Pacific coast of California known for its beaches, parks and warm climate. Immense Balboa Park is the site of the renowned San Diego Zoo, as well as numerous art galleries, artist studios, museums and gardens. A deep harbor is home to a large active naval fleet, with the USS Midway, an aircraft-carrier-turned-museum, open to the public.[1]

Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach is a small coastal city in Orange County, California. It’s known for its many art galleries, coves and beaches. Main Beach features tide pools and a boardwalk leading to the paths and gardens of nearby Heisler Park. Aliso Beach Park is a popular surf spot. The waters off Crystal Cove State Park are designated as an underwater park. Trails meander through coastal canyons in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.[1]

Malibu

Malibu is a city west of Los Angeles, California. It’s known for its celebrity homes and beaches, including wide and sandy Zuma Beach. To the east is Malibu Lagoon State Beach, known as Surfrider Beach for its waves. Nearby is the Spanish Revival–style Adamson House, with local history displays in its Malibu Lagoon Museum. Inland, trails weave through canyons, waterfalls and grasslands in the Santa Monica Mountains.[1]

Venice Beach

Venice Beach is a district of LA and is best known for its boardwalk although there is a lot more to do than just stroll along the edge of the beach. The area was conceived in 1905 by Abbott Kinney who wanted to recreate Venice by building a complex system of canals,, today only a few of the original canals have survived. In the 50s and 60s the people from the art, culture and entertainment industry flocked here making it a hot bed of creativity, radical activism and liberal free thinkers. It remains an area of cultural diversity and creativity.[1]

Griffith Observatory

The Griffith Observatory is a facility in Los Angeles, California, sitting on the south-facing slope of Mount Hollywood in Los Angeles' Griffith Park. It commands a view of the Los Angeles Basin, including Downtown Los Angeles to the southeast, Hollywood to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest.[1]

Joshua Tree National Park

Joshua Tree National Park is open year-round. There are few facilities within the park's approximately 800,000 acres, making Joshua Tree a true desert wilderness just a few hours outside Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. About 2.8 million visitors come to the park each year to enjoy activities such as hiking, camping, photography, rock climbing, and simply enjoying the serene desert scenery. The busy season in Joshua Tree runs from October through May.[1]

The Getty Villa

The Getty Villa is one of two locations of the J. Paul Getty Museum. Located at the easterly end of the Malibu coast in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.[1]

Santa Monica Pier

The Santa Monica Pier is a large double-jointed pier at the foot of Colorado Avenue in Santa Monica, California that is over 100 years old.[1]

The West Coast Soaring

Location: California State, Nevada State, and province of British Columbia.

There are days that you just want to disappear and be in some place where you don't think of anything but living life. But sometimes in order for you to experience that, you need to work your ass off 10 hours a day before paradise.

Having days off from work felt great! i don't have to think of who's covering sick calls, ordering, daily sales, crazy customers, and waking up earlier just to avoid dealing with the subway delays.

First quarter of 2018, I asked myself if what I want for my birthday. I was feeling home sick and I want to be somewhere out of the country. Out of the blue I saw an ad about a local airline having a seat sale. I consider it as a sign, I immediately messaged one of the closest friends of mine in California if I can go visit her. She was happy about it. I bought my self a roundtrip to LAX around 3 am local Toronto time that day. Crazy right? I’m a night owl.

Fast forward to the day I landed in LAX, a soon-to-be doctor friend of mine for almost 10 years and counting, Joeliah, picked me up at the airport.Its been almost 5 years since we last saw each other. Here’s a funny story; we headed to where she parked her car, but… the thing was she forgot where the hell she left her car. HAHA. We went searching for her car around the parking lot for almost an hour… searching… walking around, trying to figure out where the hell she left it. I ended up asking her, “are you sure we are on the right floor where you left it?” LMAO. The car was actually parked in the second floor but we’ve been searching it in the wrong floor. Haha. Well, Welcome to LA. Let’s go eat!

When in Los Angeles, in’n’out burger is the first thing on your list! That cheap but heavenly burger! Wether you want a lettuce instead of your typical bun or go traditional! Did I mention they have better Korean food there too and that sea urchin dish!! One thing to go see is the Packing House in Orange County and the restaurants in Laguna Beach. Besides that they have dollar sushi and taco Tuesdays. I'm definitely coming back.

Unzipped Toronto

It was partly cloudy Saturday, my friends and I decided to grab some tickets to see the exhibit. It was challenging because we needed to be up early for it. But we came through and saw this wonderful installation, “Unzipped Wall” by Bjarke Ingels.

The place was filled with design enthusiasts, checking the past and the future projects of the Serpentine Pavilion Commission.

You can spot the erected installation at 533 King street W, same location where they are planning to build a commercial complex plus condominiums. How’s that!?

The hollowed wall named as “Unzipped Wall”, made with extruded fibre glass frames instead of bricks or stoned blocks was actually a great aesthetics for photographers like me who like minimal clean vibe.

I used it as the main background for my photos, played with some shadows and used the clean aesthetic vibe to it.

I am trying not to be as awkward as possible in my photos, trust me! A colleague once told me that the person in my photos and videos(she was talking about me) is a different person in real life! Tell me about it, I am a dork! * laughing emoji here*

UrbEx: Barber Paper Mill

Location: Georgetown, Ontario | In Frame: Calvin

It was in the beginning of the summer when wasteman Calvin and I decided to give ourselves a little adventure to start!

I was the one in-charge of the location while he was in charge with the wheel! Let’s say we both are not normal when it comes to adventures. I dragged him to this abandoned paper mill, dated 1823, to take some photos as well as visit the site for some horror. I heard that the founder himself still lurks around the area! Now that’s creepy! Time to visit during the cold nights of Halloween.

The place is actually as strong as a newly built one. Most of the walls are still in tact. You’ll know that a lot of locals especially teenagers have been inside the vicinity(we went beyond the fences BTW) because of the presence of beer bottles and murals on the wall.

That day was full of exciting things…

Back story, before we ended up in Georgetown, Calvin and I were chasing waterfalls. We got tired and decided to go UrBex. Unfortunately, my flash drive gave up on me before I actually made this blog site. (sobbing)

And the trail wasn’t easy, especially for us lazy ass waste men. It takes around 15-20 minutes just walking down the trail and trekking up until the bottom of the falls. Plot twist, we took a different route going back! We did some extreme(for losers) wall climbing adventure to shorten the way back. oh Summer!

It’s been a while since I went out shooting portraits. I’ve been hearing comments from people, either friends or colleagues, that I should continue and show off my visuals in the market.

When creating contents for social media these are factors to consider; weather, subject, and story.

Luckily I met Brent, an influencer and artist in Asia, here in Toronto. He’s on vacation and decided to link up for a shoot around the city.

We talked through our social media accounts about the details. I decided to give Kensington market for a stroll, it was a perfect neighbourhood for our first location.

This market is actually a bohemian neighbourhood that attracts tourists and artists as well as locals to its indie shops, thrift shops, arts spaces, and cheap thrills!

Around you can see Victorian houses along its tree-lined streets populated by families and international students.

Since the city has a lot of tourists, from within and out of the country, the growing business of pay-per-hour parking lots exist on every corner of the downtown area. Making use of it as an aesthetic for a shoot is on-point.

Aside from Kensington Market, there’s this neighbourhood nearby where you can find cheap deals on groceries and fashion, our ever favourite place to visit in every city we go to is the Chinatown.

Those fruit stalls and crowded sidewalks can be part of your aesthetics too…

P.S. we didn’t stole anything. I guarantee that. LOOOOOL.

But the vibe was over the top!

Chinatown has a lot of aesthetics especially at night with the neon lights. This awesome gentleman in my frames was actually down to do as directed. :)

It was sunny. It was windy. It was chilly. It was cool. —

Thats how you describe the day we went up to the rooftop of an old apartment in Spadina.

This is Austin, I met this cray-cray during the cold days of winter when he visited Toronto and through my brother who is one of the wasteman, Calvin. Since then, we became good friends and always talk about creating online content besides tinder dates… loljk.

Tag hello kitty please. we want sponsors! LMAO. But seriously the bag was a great add up to the aesthetics.

Who would’ve thought that a Hello Kitty bag can be a good aesthetics for shoots. Right!? But we pulled it off and here are some shots —

This is how weird we spend our weekends. All you need to do is follow these steps;

First, find someone who can pull off a hello kitty bag as their personal carry-on bag.

Secondly, you need a person who has the door key of the main doors. Security checks.

Third, always consider the weather… obviously!

Fourth, don’t let anyone know your motives… especially don’t talk about it when you’re in the elevator. They might wanna go with you too.

Fifth and the most important step, you need to know the superintendent of the building to have access with all the keys in all the fire exit doors. Sick!

Notes: If you can’t do the fifth step, better go home and watch Netflix. loljk

Expressing thyself with figures

In Frame dancers: Angie, Marz, and Tamz.

I was at an old parking lot in Downtown Toronto when I bumped into Angie, she was in her ballerina suit, while my friends and I were chasing sunset.

I took some shots of here while she was on the top of a fire exit and asked to strike a pose then I asked for her social media to tag her.

After a while of planning and exchanging ideas online, we planned to do one weekend of fun shoot with her co-artist—

It was a concept in my head to create a symmetry through a body movement. Fact: it was actually a one take shot— wrapped it up!

As an artist, struggling each day is my inspiration to create content and motivates me to push through another day.

Working 50 hours a week seems unreal and exhausting— but my way of relieving my stress is going out and creating content for my online portfolio.

When doing my shoots I usually consider my lighting, it was a nice day out and I started early. The light were filtered plus cloudy but perfect.

Lighting is the most important factor for me, it adds up the mood and give you nice compositions as well.

Drove east of Toronto one weekend with my wasteman Calvin for some Urban exploration.

Wild Rose County

Finally, after I moved to Canada in 2016, I decided to visit my family in Alberta. The last time I saw them was 2006. I know, I was like 13 year old by that time.

The moment I got off from their airport I immediately greeted by the fresh breeze of the province. One thing reminded me of the scent was those car fresheners with pine tree scent.

I made a few friends there too! I stayed on my cousin’s friend and played halo 3 all night long.

The day we decided to drive 4 hours to see these beaut —

It was one of the most highlighted event happenings yet. I never thought of seeing such beauty of Mother nature. I was filled with amusement while we were driving the curvy path ways of both Jasper and Banff National Parks.
